Louisiana Cookin'

Every time things down here on the Gulf Coast start to get a little too hot, or a little too windy, I like to sit back, settle down in my kitchen and cook up something good.

The website for this local magazine has absolutely all kind of stuff to stuff your tummy...

Check out Louisian Cookin' here.

Taxis and Garbage...

I am usually not a real big fan of forwards. I would prefer that some one I know would take the time to drop me a line, let me know how things are going. Even if you are sending a forward include a little note so it is not so impersonal. Most often I just wind up deleting them. But every now and then one will catch my eye.

I received this forward last night, the usual no note attached. But this one was one that I found has a pretty good message.

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car backed out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. He was really friendly.

So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!
This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day.

Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so ... Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!
Have a garbage-free day.

Life and Work

I found this article in yesterday's Wall Street Journal, and although there in a section it that sounds very cynical, the author then goes on to expound upon the ideas of thinking and focusing on one's world.

Even with the discouragement aspect, this is exactly the type of ideas that I love to read. I hope y'all enjoy it.

For the Dog Lover

It's great to have a place to take your dog to socialize with other dogs. A Royal Oak Michigan group has raised money to buy a fence for their local dog park so the dogs will not bother those who are using the park without a dog. You can find the whole story here
